About & How To Use Feeds
Site feeds allow certain applications, called newsreaders, to gather information about your favorite sites, using data in specially formatted "XML," or tagged data files, known as RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Most newspapers have feeds that can be added, but some sites, such as Culture-Cast.org, will use these feeds to provide our visitors with information concerning site updates such as new content, new podcast episodes, new downloads, etc. Some browsers have RSS integration, but for easy use, you can use an RSS aggregator, which will run in the background without using up nearly the resources of a web browser. If you use a Windows-based PC, you can download FeedReader, a free, open source feed aggregator. If you use a Macintosh, you can download Vienna, a free, open source aggregator.
To use feeds, simply drag the link into the RSS aggregator of your choice, either by clicking the icon (left) and dragging it into the feed aggregator window or by copying the feed link and pasting it into the aggregator. Podcast feeds are different: these you add to your music software of choice, such as iTunes, and the software downloads new episodes as they become available.
Main Site Feed
http://culture-cast.org/cc-rss.xml - This feed will keep you up to date with all things Culture-Cast. The feed will tell you about new Content, new information, changes to our format, new episodes, contributors, plans, etc. Often, the feed will update you about upcoming episode segments made available for preview download, artist submissions that we may use that are available for download, etc. This feed will also inform you about major blog entries or additions to the Culture-cast.org family. The newest entries of this feed are seen on the left-hand column on most pages of the website.
Podcast (Enhanced)
iTunes - Subscribe from the iTunes Music Store - bring up our ratings! Alternately, drag the following link into iTunes (or copy the link into the podcast directory) and subscribe to the enhanced version of our podcast: http://culture-cast.org/pcrss.xml. This version of the podcast has a higher sound quality, chapter markings, and artwork, but is only available to iPod/iTunes listeners. Subscribing to this feed will make iTunes automatically download new episodes as they become available.
