New BlogCast Entry

A new entry has just been posted to The BlogCast. The post discusses the recent discovery that the God Squad is now spreading the gospel of peace and love through the popular console game Halo. Among other interesting questions, it asks, "what better way to impart the bloody and violent legacy of Christianity-as-practiced as opposed to Christianity-as-Christlike-behavior?"

New Podcast Episode

This is the first of a two-parter: most of these segments will be further discussed in a future episode. In this episode, we continue our discussion of the unhealthy sports obsession, including parental insanity. We address the SCHIP program, vetoed by the president this morning, and discuss his ongoing war on American freedoms. Also: for whom does the FBI work? Musical selection by Apatrides.

Update - Content and Menus

We're still finalizing our homepage, and today we launched our new menu structure. Earlier, the menus were scattered and not very user friendly. The new structure should make the site easier to navigate, giving the podcast and blogs each a menu of their own. If you can't view the menus (if they appear in large, blocky lists), you should update your browser from Internet Explorer 6 - it's outdated anyway and doesn't comply with most of the rules of the web. Try Firefox 2.0. In other news, we've added a biography for our newest member, Christian, who blogs about intersections of science, media, and culture at Caspernicus. Stay tuned for a coming episode of the podcast.

Site Version 2 Full Rollout

The newest version of the site is in the final phases of adoption. We would like your feedback concerning the appearance and content updates. Some of the biggest changes include updates to navigation (CSS menus - more accessible), and will soon release episode nine of the podcast with a more regular format. Thanks for staying with us as we've continued to update and revise the site moving toward this final release. We hope you stay with us as we continue to grow. If you would like to contact us concerning the new layout or content, please visit the Contact Page. If you are having trouble with the menus (they appear in large, blocky lists), you should upgrade from Internet Explorer 6 to either Firefox 2.0 or IE 7.

Updates and Coming Segments

It's been busy for the past few days, but we've posted a new entry to the blogcast (http://blogcast.culture-cast.org/) that foreshadows a coming segment on the podcast. Also updated, the ''Coming Soon'' page, with a few more details from the upcoming episode, expected to be complete by midweek. I'll be updating the ''Contributors'' area soon, with information about recent contributors to the podcast, as well as a bio for our newest member, Caspernicus. On a final note, we expect to have a finalized version of the new website complete by the end of this month. Thanks for sticking with us as we've been doing our best to revise and update Culture-Cast.org to deliver the best content possible.

Content Update - New Member

It has been a while - again, we do need contributors! On that note, we have a new member, Caspernicus, who has begun blogging about scientific intersections with media and culture. We would like to welcome him to the Culture-Cast.org group, and we hope that you take a look at his blog at http://caspernicus.culture-cast.org. We should have a new podcast episode soon, in which we will introduce Christian to the community.

New Site Version

The site update is in full ''soft'' testing. If this were software, it would be version 2.0rc1. The news (as you can plainly see) is now displayed to the left of the main content on each page. The menus have changed to reflect our broadening content and contributors. If you have any trouble negotiating the site, we have created a new SiteMap, available from the main menu. Read on...

First: a few announcements. The redesign of the site is almost complete, and we should roll out within the next two weeks. New, cleaner styles, easier navigation, and better organization should definitely improve the feel of culture-cast. Second: The blogs are up - beta gold - and we've added a multi-user client. This is a better time than ever to join up! Visit the ''Join Us'' page. Finally: A new episode has just been uploaded. See the podcast homepage for more info - this is a long one.

New Episode added - Finally

We have finally posted a new episode to the podcast! While we didn't quite get to the timeline, we'll use that in an upcoming episode to arrive sometime within the next week or two. We were proud to feature our Vonnegut tribute as well as our Student Loan piece, and our musical selections from Allison Crowe were fantastic as promised. Christopher Salerno provided a reading of his poem, ''The End of Winter.'' To download the episode, visit our podcast homepage at http://podcast.culture-cast.org.

We're Back! ... mostly ... and Coming Soon

We are slowly returning from a monthlong hiatus, still working on the promised redesign, but it will take some time. If you want to help speed it up, please take a load off of our backs by contributing your ideas and segments to the podcast, your thoughts and words to the blog. This was intended as a community production, and we would love to have a broader base from which to begin. We also have a new episode coming soon featuring our long-promised trubite to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., his life and effect on American literature. Also featured is an in-depth discussion of the student loan scandal, and an analysis of the media's treatment and our reaction. Musical selections from Allison Crowe.

New Podcast Episode

In this episode, we return to the ideas of bias and objectivity that we discussed in our most recent episode. We address public perceptions of bias in the media and point out one of the worst media offenders in the bias lie. We relive the month of April in the 1970s in our Time Capsule session; and once again, we feature two readings by poet Thomas David Lisk from his new volume, 'These Beautiful Limits,' entitled ''The World's Religions,'' and ''Oregon Trail.'' Our musical selection features the remarkable work of Rob Costlow, a solo pianist whose style is as unique as it is precise and passionate. To learn more about our featured artists, visit our blog at blogcast.culture-cast.org. Finally, we reissue our call for contributors. Join us!
